Alvin Shrier Award

David Lee

Through his three years of service at The Open Door, a Kanien’kehá:ka-run emergency shelter supporting Indigenous community members facing housing insecurity in Montréal, David has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to care and community action. His application stood out for its honesty, urgency, and clear dedication to supporting some of the city’s most vulnerable populations. We are very proud to recognize him for the meaningful impact he has made through his compassion and service

Rawan Alhashemi

Through her work with Heart 4 Heart, Rawan has helped turn student-led fundraising into meaningful support for children in need of life-saving cardiac surgeries. Her application reflected a strong sense of compassion, service, and commitment to making healthcare access more equitable. We are proud to honour her for the care, purpose, and community spirit she brings to this work.

Alexia Greco

Through her support of the BC Cancer Foundation, Alexia has shown an extraordinary commitment to advocacy, fundraising, and patient care in honour of those affected by rare cancers. Her application stood out for its deeply personal connection, as well as the initiative she has taken to turn grief into meaningful action for other families. We are proud to recognize her compassion, leadership, and dedication to making a real difference.

The Maude Abbott Excellence in Leadership Scholarship

Dr. Maude Abbott was a pioneering physician and medical educator at McGill University, despite being barred from studying medicine there due to her gender. Her leadership in pathology and medical education laid the foundation for advancements in cardiovascular research and helped pave the way for women in medicine.

Alvin Shrier Award

The Alvin Shrier Award honours the legacy of one of Physiology’s dedicated former Department Chairs by recognizing students who show outstanding passion and involvement in the Physiology, McGill, and greater Montreal communities. Awarded by PULS, it celebrates one student in each year (U1, U2, and U3), with each recipient receiving $100 to direct toward a charity of their choice. The award reflects a commitment to community impact, leadership, and service beyond the classroom.
