Election Procedures

  • Timing
    • Elections are held in March on a date set by Council.
  • Who can run: Any returning student registered in Physiology (or I.H.I students with at least 1 completed year in Physiology) may run for executive/officer roles.
    • I.H.I. students without 1 completed Physiology year may run for all roles except: President, Vice President, U3 Rep, U2 Rep.
  • Platform and Nominations
    • All Candidates must submit a 300-word max statement and a 1-minute max video.
      • Statements/videos are posted on PULS social media at the start of campaigning.
      • Campaign spending must not exceed $25 (including video costs).
    • Executive Officers require 30 signature nominations
      • Signatures may be virtual or hard-copy
        • refer to “Guidelines for Nomination forms” below.
      • Executive Officers are President, Vice President, VP Finance. All other positions do NOT require nominations
  • Mandatory meeting
    • All candidates must attend a required election meeting where rules are reviewed.
    • The meeting is held shortly before campaigning begins.
  • Campaign period
    • All platforms are displayed on the PULS instagram and candidates may campaign in this period however they see fit.
    • Candidates must run individually (no joint campaigning).
    • All campaign materials must be removed by 6 PM the day before voting starts.
  • Voting result: Winners are decided by majority vote.
    • A tie triggers an emergency meeting where departing council interviews both candidates and appoints a winner.
    • Council vacancies are filled by appointment by the new council.
  • Elected + appointed: Students may run for an elected role and apply for an appointed role, but if they win elected, they must accept it and withdraw from the appointed process.
Guideline for Nomination Google Form
  • Set the Google Form name as: “PULS Nomination Form – full_name for position_name”
  • A portrait picture of yourself may be included as the form banner, but campaigning messages are forbidden
  • Include the following blanks/options in the Google Form and make them all mandatory fields:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • McGill Email Address
    • Student ID
    • Year (U1, U2, U3)
    • “I hereby agree that I will nominate candidate_name for the position of position name for the upcoming Physiology Undergraduate League of Students Elections”
      • A single check mark option named “Signed”
